Before the move
Inventory devices, network points, applications and connections. Confirm internet delivery at the new site, power, cabinet space and cabling with the relevant providers. Verify backups and document configurations before disconnecting equipment. Assign an owner to each part of the move.
Plan the cutover
Agree downtime with staff and plan the order in which infrastructure and applications will return. Label cables and equipment clearly. Keep essential configuration records available outside the systems being moved, with access restricted to authorised people.
Test the business workflow
Check wired and wireless access, VPN, mail, shared files, printers and critical applications. Include phone and camera systems if they are within scope. Record unresolved issues and hand over updated network documentation; a working internet connection alone is not full acceptance.
Sources and further reading
Options vary by product version, subscription and organisation policy. Refer to the vendor documentation before making changes.
