What protection provides

Endpoint protection helps detect and block malicious activity, but no product can guarantee that every threat will be stopped. Keep the operating system and applications updated. Security software works best alongside careful account permissions, MFA and recoverable backups.

Built-in or centrally managed?

Windows includes security capabilities, but a company's requirements may include central policy, alerts, reporting and incident response. Compare the actual features and licences needed rather than assuming every free or paid product is equivalent. Avoid running competing real-time antivirus engines together without vendor guidance.

Keep it operational

Check that protection and updates are active and that someone reviews alerts. Define how staff report suspicious files. Do not dismiss repeated warnings or exclude whole business folders merely to stop an alert; investigate the cause first.

Sources and further reading

Options vary by product version, subscription and organisation policy. Refer to the vendor documentation before making changes.
