Understand synchronization
Synchronization keeps selected files aligned across devices and the cloud. Changes, including deletions, can propagate. A file appearing on two synchronized computers does not necessarily mean there are two independent recovery copies.
Know the recovery features
Version history and recycle-bin features can help, but availability and retention depend on the service and account settings. Verify what your organisation actually has. Do not assume every local folder is included or that a cloud-only file is available offline.
Build a broader plan
Identify critical data, required retention and recovery responsibilities. Assess whether an independent backup is needed, then test recovery. Before changing sync settings or deleting folders, confirm which copies are authoritative and protect important files.
Sources and further reading
Options vary by product version, subscription and organisation policy. Refer to the vendor documentation before making changes.
