Keep the error details

Record the update name, error code and whether the problem occurs during download, installation or restart. Check internet access, available disk space and pending restarts. A company-managed update policy may intentionally control timing or versions.

Use the supported tools

Follow Microsoft's troubleshooting steps for the specific error and Windows version. Back up important work before recovery actions. Avoid deleting system folders or running copied repair commands without understanding their effect. Coordinate managed-device changes with IT.

Review after the restart

Confirm the update history and test important applications. If the same update keeps failing, collect logs and recent change details for further diagnosis. Do not permanently disable updates as the default solution.

Sources and further reading

Options vary by product version, subscription and organisation policy. Refer to the vendor documentation before making changes.
